History
easy to open tear-off closures

The crown cork was invented in USA, the patent issued 1892 and has since then been the dominating closure for bottles with beer and other beverages. The crown cork provides an excellent sealing performance at low cost. However, the cap has to be opened with a tool and can be opened and resealed without being recognized by the user. Following two features - easy opening and tamper proofness - have today become important concepts for the consumer and the manufacturer of beverages.

During the years different easy to open tear-off closures have been introduced into the market:

1931 ALKA A tear-off cap made from soft aluminium without score lines and with cork disc liner. Wicanders, Sweden.
1960th Rip Cap A one-piece cap with pull-ring made from 0,22 - 0,24 mm semi-soft aluminium. The cap opens along pre-punched score lines by pulling the ring out and up over the shell. PVC or PE liner. American Flange, USA.
1968 MaxiCap A one-piece cap with pull-tab made from 0,22 mm semi-soft aluminium. The cap was opened by pulling the tab out and up over the top of the shell along pre-punched score lines. Wicanders, Sweden.
